Our greatest glory...

...is not in never falling, but in rising each time we fall.

For a number of years, starting in high school, I wasn't interested in anything related to the gospel, and didn't live my life according to its teachings. You very well could say that I "fell". I had a seminary teacher named Don Lindberg, who knew me quite well as he was also the father of a long-time good friend of mine. He seemed to take a special interest in me and tried so hard to get me to attend seminary, knowing that it would have a great influence on me. He once even brought the seminary class to our house. I continued to live how I thought I wanted to live. One day Bro Lindberg approached me and told me he had something he knew would be very special and important to me, and that he wanted to give it to me. He wrote up a contract and told me that either way at the end of the year he would reveal what that item was. I didn't attend seminary and one Sunday afternoon Bro Lindberg came over and showed me an official NFL game ball autographed by my favorite football player of all time, Steve Young. My heart sank when I saw it and it was a sad event for all involved. A number of years later, after a mighty change of heart, I turned course in my life and became worthy to serve a full-time mission. I was excited to notify friends and family the day I received my call to Baltimore, MD. When I told Bro Lindberg he told me he would have something waiting for me when I returned. A few years later, on another Sunday afternoon, Bro Lindberg and his wife came over and presented me with that signed football. I appreciate having that autographed football so much...but the story behind it means so much more to me. I love how the gospel of Jesus Christ provides a way for us to rise each time we fall. For that I am grateful. Good times y'all. Happy Thanksgiving.

Sunday Will Come

It’s always difficult losing loved ones. I lost three of my grandparents at a young age so the reality of it didn’t really quite sink in at the time. I did get much more time with my Grandma Nielsen though, and I’ll never forget that general conference weekend in Winchester,VA when President Moody called me to inform me of her passing. It’s a heartbreaking thing to lose a grandparent or any loved one that has touched you in so many ways. Chrissy and her family are going through this very thing right now with the passing of her Grandpa Freeman. My heart certainly goes out to them and their family. What a blessing the gospel is during difficult times like this. I’m reminded of one of my favorite talks from Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, it brought comfort to me and he shares a great message in it. Just thought I’d share it.

One year ago today...

I was looking through my journal last night and read the entry for a year ago. It's fun to go back and read stuff. So it was one year ago today that Chrissy and I hung out together, just us two, for the first time. We watched Top Gun, and apparently I snuggled right up to her on the couch as we watched it. (i'ma say she snuggled right up to me)...either way ya look at it, things turned out quite well for the both of us. Good times.

All I want for Christmas...

a number of years ago we were visiting some family in Mink Crick, ID (yes it's actually Mink Creek, but that just sounds weird)...anyway, the neighbor came over with a little baby miniature donkey. it was the coolest thing ever...I want one. So I mentioned it to someone at work today who told me about something else I might like...and so, my dream is to someday own me a lil mini donkey and some mini cattle...including a lil mini longhorn steer like this. that'd be such good times.

Proud to be an American

My dad is one of my greatest heroes. He is a colonel in the United States Army. He has dutifully and loyally served our great nation for over 30 years. I'm proud to be the son of such a man and officer and have learned a great deal from his example. I have great respect for all who have served and those who are currently serving this country, and hope to honor them every day, but especially today on Veteran's Day. I am proud to be an American.

The eyes of Texas are upon you

on saturday i took charlie to Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium to see colt mccoy and the Texas longhorns take on central florida. seeing a football game there is amazing. there is so much pageantry and tradition...a truly magical feeling...there is no better place to see a football game. the day started off w/ the national anthem, i always love hearing that, and get a special feeling whenever i hear it...this time it was capped off with flyover from some Air Force t-38s...it was awesome.

as we walked into the stadium we saw jordan shipley warming up...thought maybe he was in for a big day...indeed he was, setting a UT single game record w/ 273 yards receiving. including a beautiful 88 yarder running into the end zone right in front of us. it was righteous.

colt went for over 470 yds...HEIStheMAN.

coach mack brown is a living legend for the Texas football program.

will muschamp is next in line.

such good times. hook em horns.
