i was saddened to hear the news of the passing of elder joseph b. wirthlin today. i really enjoyed his talks, and the gentle, loving spirit he carried about himself. he truly exemplified Christlike love and was a great example to us all. i really appreciated the fact that he played football back in the day at the university of utah . and i'll never forget the story of how he could have cheated his way into the endzone for a game-winning touchdown...but he knew he hadn't made it in and remained just short. in the heat of competition that had to be a very tough decision...but he made the absolute right one...integrity triumphs over victory.i can only hope i woulda done the same. i also loved his sense of optimism. i love how he said that no matter how dark friday may get, sunday will always come. so indeed, come what may...and love it.

Awesome post Zach!
Hey, I just read that talk last week. It's so good. Thanks for this great post.
Very nice post. I also liked your thoughts on how the Quorum mentioned that there is no one more loved and respected than Joseph B. Wirthlin. Very sweet. It kinda seems like these guys should never die.
When I was on my mission in Norway Elder Wirthlin came for a visit. This was before he was an apostle. I was serving in Alta at that time. Alta is above the Arctic Circle. We hardly ever got visitors there. Elder Wirthlin was there with his wife. After the meetings the missionaries and several members of our small branch took a midnight hike and had a picnic with Elder Wirthlin and his wife. I have never forgotten that.
This was of course Norway and the middle of summer. The Land of the Midnight Sun.
How many elders have gotten to stay up all night with a General Authority?
I need to look. I think I have a picture of that even somewhere.
